In 2008 Ecuador became the first country in the world to give the Earth the same legal rights as the individual human being. Their constitution now demands that the government protect and nurture the Earth. If we all thought of the Earth’s biosphere as warranting equal rights to ourselves, imagine how our climate change, recycling and other environmental crises would shift. Revolution in our mindset really can create a tangible difference in the ‘real’ world.
